Today our Solaris box started randomly failing to build our company software product. It's a fairly large build of hundreds of .c
files.
The error the Solaris C compiler cites:
(On a random file in the Make process)
internal compiler error: Failure while writing SunIR file
The machine has not previously had this issue in living memory. Typically immediately kicking off the build again results in success.
I don't understand what this error message means, it does not seem to be documented anywhere except log-pastes in old mailing lists, where it's just part of a big failed compile log.
Is this caused by some impending catastrophic hardware fault?

EDIT: There is plenty of disk free
