I just started taking a scripting class this semester, which covers Python/PHP/Perl and also Unix shell scripting - I'm pretty familiar with the former subjects, but I'm completely new to writing Bas, and Unix in general (until now I've only used Windows).

Unfortunately, due to a recent shortage of CS professors, my class is being taught by a professor who knows nothing about Unix or Bash (I'm not just assuming; he told us "I'm new to this too, so we'll learn together!"). This is also the only professor teaching this course this semester. As such, it's difficult to decode the course notes/lab instructions that were written by the original professor, as the new one just tells us to Google it.

I'm wondering if you all can direct me to some tools/guides/etc. that will be useful in learning shell scripting, especially for someone entirely new to Unix. At the moment, we're using SSH/SFTP Secure Shell Client on Windows 10, which is connected to the school server.

I saw that Code Academy has a Bash/Shell course; would this be sufficient?

Thanks in advance!
