I have deleted the /etc/fstab file purposely. How is my machine still booting up normally?

I think it is using intiramfs but once the kernel starts the init process is forked, then it should crash or throw some errors as init reads /etc/fstab.

can anyone please explain what actually is happening??

thanks

  • It really depends on your initramfs and the init system you're using(possible your kernel arguments). Especially when you only have one single file system for /, fstab is possibly not needed
